Questions
Short answers to help you understand your system and make a more informed decision.
A heat pump moves heat instead of creating it by burning fuel. In winter it transfers heat into your home; in summer it reverses direction and works like an air conditioner. One system can provide both heating and cooling.
A heat pump provides heating and cooling by transferring heat. A furnace creates heat using gas or electric resistance and does not provide cooling by itself. The best choice depends on your home, ductwork, electrical service, comfort goals, and operating costs.
Yes, when the equipment is correctly selected and sized. Modern inverter and cold-climate heat pumps can continue heating below freezing. Some homes may also benefit from electric or dual-fuel backup heat based on the design.
A repair may make sense when the equipment is otherwise reliable and the problem is limited. Replacement may be worth considering when repairs are becoming frequent, major components have failed, comfort is uneven, or energy use is increasing. We inspect the system first and explain both options when appropriate.
Professional maintenance is generally recommended once a year, ideally before the system’s busiest season. Check the air filter monthly and replace it when dirty; homes with pets, smoke, or heavier system use may need more frequent filter changes.
Yes. Ductless mini-splits can heat and cool individual rooms or zones without traditional ductwork. If ducts already exist, we evaluate their condition and airflow before recommending a ducted system.
Available incentives depend on the existing heating system, property type, income requirements, and qualifying equipment. We review Energy Trust of Oregon and Oregon Heat Pump Purchase Program options before the installation. Eligibility and funding must be confirmed and are not guaranteed.
Yes. For applicable installations, we coordinate the mechanical permit and required inspection. Electrical work and permits are also coordinated when the project requires them.
Yes, when Tranquility supplies and installs the complete system. Installation-only requests or customer-supplied equipment require a paid technical consultation because compatibility, sizing, warranty, code, and site conditions must be reviewed first.
